2021 CinefestOZ Community Screenings offer the opportunity to enjoy some great Australian films for free. This year’s Community Screenings Program is curated to the theme of GROUNDED. With the turmoil and uncertainty that 2020 brought to Australians, we present you with a Community Screenings set which aims to ground us all. You might find that country and nature grounded you or even your work or passion projects. Let these films remind us what brings us all back to this beautiful earth.

10.00am – Cinesnaps Short Film Finalists 2020 – Runtime 32 mins. Director: Various.
Each year students are invited to enter the Cinesnaps short film Competition. These are the seven finalist films as chosen by a prestigious Cinesnaps jury for their strong film techniques, storytelling and a clear connection with the theme “Suitcase”.

11.00am – Zach’s Ceremony – Runtime 93 mins. Director: Aaron Peterson.
Growing up isn't easy, especially for Zach who is rapidly making the transition from boyhood to manhood, in both the modern world and his ancient culture. Pressures from his loving, but staunch father, the temptations of city life and the ever present spectre of racism all take their toll. Ultimately Zach must embrace the traditions and knowledge of his ancestors and awaken the warrior within.

1.00pm - Puberty Blues – Runtime 87 mins. Director: Bruce Beresford.
The coolest things to do are the things they say we can’t do. Directed by Bruce Beresford, Australian 80’s classic coming-of-age film Puberty Blues traces the lives of two adolescent girls who have spent the first part of their lives. In a group by themselves, while desperately trying to break into the “in” crowd who dominate the Greenhill beach.
